BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The
Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190
Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led
programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty
of nature as spring arrives in Somerset County. The Environmental Education
Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children
and adults year around.
Preregistration is required for programs and may be done by calling
908-766-2489 or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech
impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org.
America’s National Parks
Wednesday, April 2 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. - ages 3 to 5 w/parent
Wednesday, April 2 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. - ages 4 to 6
Children and parents will learn about the unique and phenomenal natural features
of our National Parks through crafts, stories, hikes, and games. Theme is “Denali.”
Fee is $8 per pair and $4 per additional child for younger group & $5 per
person for older group.

Discovering Teeth - NEW
Wednesday, April 2 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Children ages 7 to 9 will join a Naturalist and solve the mystery of which
set of teeth belongs to which animal and how they provide clues of age and
diet.
Fee is $5 per person.

Earth Day Every Day
Saturday, April 5 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Family and friends will join a Naturalist for an adventure in the Swamp to
learn why every day should be Earth Day.

Nature Dyes It! -

Family and friends will hike Lord Stirling Park to search out the types of
plants that may work for coloring fabrics.
Fee is $12 per person.

Passaic Paddle
Saturday, April 5 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Paddlers will enjoy a relaxed trip through the Great Swamp Basin, flowing through
floodplain forest and many unique wetland habitats. Fee is $18 per adult and
$15 per student or senior.

Our Earth -

Family and friends (age 10 and over) will enjoy this three-part program that
will look at current environmental issues and how people can have an impact
on improving and preserving our world. Theme of session two is “Greening
Your Home”

Compass 101
Sunday, April 6 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Family and friends will develop mapping and compass skills while revealing
the culture and natural history of the Somerset County Parks.
