AWESIM Adventurers prepare for a ride through the Costa Rican forest.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is offering a Naturalist-led trip for teens, ages 13 –15, to the rainforests of Costa Rica from Monday, August 4 – Friday, August 22, 2008.

AWESIM ADVENTURERS will enjoy exploring the rainforests and diverse ecosystems of Costa Rica. Participants will be led on explorations of a variety of habitats by a professional Costa Rican guide/naturalist. Somerset County Park Commission Naturalists, who have each studied an aspect of Costa Rican ecology, will accompany the group.

Activities will include a trip to Tortugero for an evening of sea turtle observation; a hike to a coastal observation tower in the jungle; a journey to Selva Verde for whitewater rafting on the Sarapiqui River; a visit to the Ecological Sanctuary and Butterfly Garden at Monteverde, and a hike in the Children’s Eternal Rainforest; horseback riding at Hacienda Guachipelin and a day hike in Rinconde la Vieja National Park.
