LEARN TO RIDE ENGLISH-STYLE AT LORD STIRLING STABLE BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Somerset County Park Commission Lord Stirling Stable, located at 256 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge, New Jersey , will be holding an Introductory English-Style Horseback Ride on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 10:00 A.M.. The Introductory Ride is the perfect opportunity for individuals who have never been on a horse to see if they would like to learn how to ride. It is also a great “refresher” for those who have not ridden English style in a long time, or for those who have ridden Western and would like to see if they enjoy English style riding. The event will consist of a brief discussion on horses and riding techniques, followed by an hour-long supervised ride led at the walk along the scenic equestrian trails of Lord Stirling Stable. The ride will take place rain or shine, and may be held in the indoor ring in the case of inclement weather. Juniors and adults who weigh less than 240 lbs. and are at least 12 years of age are eligible to participate. Junior riders between 12 and 18 years old must be registered by their parent or legal guardian. An ASTM/SEI certified riding helmet and hard, smooth soled shoes or boots with a definite heel are required and are available for rental at $2.00 each. Registration for the ride must be done in person at the stable office, which is open seven days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The fee for the ride is $32.00 for Somerset County residents and $40.00 for out of county residents and must be paid at the time of registration by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.
