Do Male and Female Bees Like Different Flowers?
January 27
Are some foods "boy foods" or "girl foods?" If so, do you think the reasons are cultural? Do animals have cultures? How about insects? Why might male and female bees visit different plants? In 2016, Michael Roswell, a Doctoral Candidate from Rutgers University, led a research project to see if, for wild bees, there are "boy foods" and "girl foods." His data suggests there are. Come by to discuss the data and explore reasons for the patterns that emerged. Together we will think about what makes a bee male or female, or both.

Josephine - The Empress Gardened - NEW PROGRAM
February 10 (Rain date: February 17)
Colonial Park Gardens welcomes Garden Historian Lesley Parness for a very special lecture. French Empress Josephine's fine taste informed 18th and 19th century style, from couture fashion to interior design. Likewise, was she influenced by her Caribbean heritage, her narrow escape from the guillotine, and her legendary love for flowers. When divorced from her husband, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, this powerful style-maker and lifelong fashionista focused her energies on her estate, Malmaison. There, Josephine's passion for plants grew and bloomed. Her legendary love of roses stopped a war, cost a fortune, set explorers to sail, and started a floral industry that endures today. Pre-registration by February 9 is required.
