Educational Public Programs for july 2018

Let's Move The Environmental Education Center has partnered with the national Let's Move! initiative to fight childhood obesity by encouraging participation in outdoor activities and promoting healthy eating. Those programs are listed with the Let's Move! logo by the program titles.

A Hummingbird's Life
(Ages infant-5 with parent)
Spring brings new life to the swamp. Our summer birds return after being away for the winter. One little bird "flies" its heart out to come north and lay eggs – the hummingbird. We will look at the life of a hummingbird and try some of their challenges.

Meet A Lot of Feet
(Ages 4-6)
In the Swamp, many of our animals have more than two, four, and six legs. Come find out whom they are and the important role they have in our ecosystem. Get ready to move fast because with all their legs they can out race you!

Fort Indiantown Gap - New program
(All Ages, 13 years and older with parent)
Join the Environmental Education Center as we explore the unique grasslands of Fort Indiantown Gap. This area of the Fort Indiantown Gap military base is open to the public only four times a year. The property features a variety of rare native plants, butterflies, and interesting bird species. This is the last remaining place in the Northeast to view the stunning Regal Fritillary butterfly. Nowhere else will you find such an ecletic mix of birds, butterflies, and botany.

Coyote Kids
(Ages 4-6)
Hoooooowl! Join our pack for a fun, five-day nature program full of outdoor hikes, live animals, hands-on activities, games, crafts, and water play! This program will take place rain or shine. Pack a snack and come prepared to be outside! This week's topic will focus on a different habitat each day. Explore the field, forest, swamp, and gardens!

(Ages 13-16)
Explore various hiking trails that will lead you to hidden waterfalls. Photograph, admire, and wade your way in for a swim! Enjoy the day in the woods and in the water!

Tot Trek
(Ages infant-5 with parent) Calling all tots! Leave the stroller behind and join a Naturalist for a walk on the trails of Lord Stirling Park. Explore the natural world around you by using all of your senses! You will be surprised to find out how much fun you can have outside! Pre-registration is required.

Xtreme Adventure: Kayak
(Ages 13-16) Travel to the Wading River in the New Jersey Pine Barrens and learn how to wet exit a kayak. Discover the proper kayak strokes, and put your skills to the test! While paddling, keep an eye out for wildlife and enjoy the scenery along the waterway! We will be sure to stop for a picnic lunch and swim!

Lovable Lepidoptera - New program
(All Ages, 8 years and older with parent)
Oh what a night! Join us for a late evening adventure at the EEC to learn about moths and other nocturnal insects. We will set up blacklights for an up close entomology learning experience and answer the age old question of why bugs are drawn to bright lights. This program involves hiking, therefore, lightweight long sleeve shirts, pants, and appropriate footwear are recommended.

Rainbows always seem to appear magically in the sky after a rainstorm! Join us as we explore how, when, and why rainbows form. We will experiment with the color spectrum and prisms as we discover the recipe for a rainbow.

The building is open 9am-5pm daily.
Exhibits are open 9am-4:30pm daily.
Registration is accepted 9am-4:30pm daily.
The building is closed on Holidays.
Trails are open dawn to dusk daily but closed on Deer Management days as scheduled.
