BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty of nature as winter takes hold in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.
Mondays, March 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of
nature through outdoor activities to stimulate the five senses.
Fee is $30 per pair and $15 per additional child..

Children ages 5 and 6 who are enrolled in kindergarten will study science
and explore the natural world through games, Naturalist-led
activities, and more.

Children ages 4 to 6 will learn why different animals "dance" as they enter
their mating season.

Children ages 7 to 9 will create some crafts that will help birds nest as spring arrives and the nesting season begins.

Children ages 3 to 5 will be entertained and educated at these afternoon
science and nature classes. Program will include hikes, hands-on
activities, interacting with live animals, and creating crafts.
Fee is $65 per person for the 4-day session.

Friday, March 9 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children age infant to 5 with a parent will begin the rites of spring by
planting herbs that will spice up any meal.

Friday, March 9 from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Children age infant to 5 with a parent will enjoy a imaginary visit to
points around the globe, playing rainforest bingo, bowling for
penguins, and building a cactus. Theme is "Ocean Odyssey."

Saturday, March 10 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will listen to a Naturalist read an
environmentally-based story and enjoy a short walk on the trails of
the EEC.

Children ages 12 to 15 who have to fulfill a community service
requirement for school will enjoy the educational and fun activities
at the Environmental Education Center.

FAMILY & ADULT PROGRAMS
Saturday, March 10 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Family and friends age 9 years and older will learn how to make various
spa treatments at home from ingredients found around the house
and how to protect skin from the elements.

Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11. at 10:00 A.M, 12:00 Noon & 2:00 P.M. on Saturdays and 12:00 Noon and 2:00 P.M. on Sundays
Everyone is invited to see how trees are tapped, how sap is collected, and witness the boiling process that produces delicious New Jersey maple syrup.
The program is free
Pre-registration is not required for individuals and families. Groups are encouraged to call ahead.
Sunday, March 11 from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Family and friends will get to know some animals that look creepy, icky,
or scary, but are really not.

Blue "BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays" bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
