Arboretum Overview

The Arboretum of Colonial Park collects, curates, and cares for trees and shrubs, displaying them in a manner that promotes education, inspiration, and enjoyment. It is of interest to students of botany and horticulture, nature lovers, plant enthusiasts, artists, and more. We strive to promote a meaningful relationship between people and trees through passive leisure opportunities and public programming.

Located in the western portion of Colonial Park, the Arboretum is comprised of over 500 labeled specimens of woody plants. Here the visitor will find a very well-rounded representation of trees and shrubs from many different taxonomic groups, from all around the world. It is our mission to protect and continually build upon our existing collection to enhance our role as a public garden.

The Arboretum offers four seasons of interest with spring and summer flowering trees and shrubs, rich fall color, and winter beauty from exposed branches, evergreens, and persistent berries and seeds. It offers a quiet place for solitude and reflection, a habitat for local nature, and makes a beautiful backdrop for weddings, posed photography, or dedication ceremonies.

The Arboretum is free to visit and open daily from sunrise to sunset. Leashed dogs and small picnics are permitted. Guided tours can be arranged for a small fee.
