Public Engagement and Administrative Specialist

North Branch Park                                                

Description
The Public Engagement and Administrative Specialist for the Park Commission reporting to the Director has three primary responsibilities involving multiple tasks and skills.  1) The position administratively coordinates and facilitates interactions between the office of the Director and the Park Commission, providing clerical support for Park Commission meetings and correspondence. The position ensures the seamless operation of Park Commission meetings. 2) The position is responsible for actively supporting the Park Commission’s external relationships including the Commission’s social media presence, planning, and executing special events, and collaborating with external partners.  Specifically, the position includes membership on the SCPC media committee and interfacing with counterparts in the County and other external partnering agencies.  3) The third component of the position’s responsibilities involves administrative support to the Director and as needed, the Director of Operations/Secretary and Administrator of Executive Services. This includes acting as a backup support to the SCPC Administrator of Executive Services, assisting with meeting preparation and budget management tasks in her absence.
 

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.  Major in Communications, Public Administration, Marketing, or a related field preferred.  Minimum of 5 years of experience in a combination of administrative support, social media management, and event planning.  Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.  Experience with marketing tools and analytics is a plus.  Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize workload.


Manager of Horticulture

Colonial Park Gardens                                                  

Description
Under the direction of the Administrator of Leisure and Community Services, plan, promote, implement, and evaluate all horticulture activities of the park commission. Responsible for leadership and oversight of two Supervisors, an Administrative Assistant, and several horticulture areas including Leonard J. Buck Garden and Colonial Park Gardens, which includes the Rudolf van der Goot Rose Garden, Perennial Garden, Arboretum and woody plant collections in addition to all other horticulture needs within the park system and golf courses. One supervisor oversees the daily activities of Buck Garden and three full time gardeners along with part-time/seasonal staff. Another supervisor performs the same function for horticulture activities connected with Colonial Park Gardens, and the parks and golf courses within the park commission. Colonial Park Supervisor oversees six full-time gardeners, Rosarian, and the Horticulture Administrative Assistant in addition to part-time/seasonal gardeners.
 

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or a closely related field and five years of management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. A strong knowledge of environmental and ecological concepts is required. Must demonstrate understanding of the role of plants, gardens, and collections in public horticulture. Must demonstrate knowledge of herbaceous and woody landscape plants appropriate for central and northern New Jersey. Must possess excellent leadership and communications skills with the ability to speak to large groups. Must be able to work weekends and holidays when required. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have or be willing to obtain a N.J. Certified Pesticide Applicator license.

Spray Technician

Neshanic Valley Golf Course

Description
Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, performs necessary chemical and fertilizer applications to golf course and clubhouse grounds.  
 

Qualifications
High school diploma and two years related experience preferred. Knowledge and experience pertaining to chemicals and fertilizers and their proper calibration and applications, as well as application equipment preferred.  Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to work weekends, holidays, emergency situations and must be able to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operations of the golf course.  Ability to obtain pesticide license and fertilizer certification/training preferred.


Gardener

Colonial Park Gardens                                                  

Description
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor and/or Senior Gardener, performs all garden and landscape maintenance required for the care of park ornamental plantings including trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and turf.
 

Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Horticulture or related field preferred; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Neat, clean appearance and ability to work with the general public crucial. Ability to work weekends and holidays is required.  Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a NJ Certified Pesticide Operator license if requested.


Maintenance Worker 

North County Maintenance                                                     

Description
Under direction of the Foreperson, performs the routine maintenance, operation and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds.  Performs other related duties.
 

Qualifications
Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Knowledge of building maintenance and equipment; the ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks; the ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions including snow plowing. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.    Ability to work with the general public.  Ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of facilities.  Must be able to report to work for emergency situations including snow removal.  Valid NJ driver's license required.


Greensworker

Green Knoll Golf Course

Description
Under the direction of the Superintendent and Assistants, responsible for the playing condition and maintenance of the grounds and turf of the golf course including operating necessary equipment to maintain greens, tees, fairways, rough, and out of play areas, bunker maintenance, preparation of new areas for seed/sod, planting and trimming trees, and snow removal. 
 

Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and one to two years related experience and/or training preferred.  Ability to work with general public.  Ability to work weekends and holidays and if required, report to work for emergency situations. Must have a valid driver’s license.


Greensworkers

Warrenbrook Golf Course & Neshanic Valley Golf Course

Description

Stableworker

The Stable at Lord Stirling Park

Description
Under direction of the Stable Supervisor, performs duties to effectively operate an equestrian stable, including feeding and grooming of horses, care of tack, cleaning stalls, and preparation of horses and ponies for riding lessons, trail rides, lead line, and pony parties.

Qualifications
Ability to perform simple maintenance tasks. Must be able to school new and young horses. Ability to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the proper care of the horses. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial. Must have a valid driver's license. Previous experience working with horses preferred.
