Records Request Under OPRA

REQUEST FOR PARK COMMISSION RECORDS UNDER OPRA

The Open Public Records Act (“OPRA”), N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 , et seq., is the legislation that governs the public's access to government records in New Jersey.  OPRA identifies procedures for the public (the "requestor") to review or obtain copies of government records, procedures to be followed to challenge the denial of access to government records, and penalties for those who violate the law.

The State of New Jersey Government Records Council has an extensive section of its website that provides information for those wishing to gain access to government records.  The section, entitled “OPRA for the Public” can be found at https://www.nj.gov/grc/public/.  It is suggested that those individuals or organizations wishing to make a records request of the Somerset County Park Commission visit the Government Records Council’s site.  Of particular relevance is the Government Records Council’s document entitled “A Citizen’s Guide to Open Public Records Act” which can be found at https://www.nj.gov/grc/public/.

Those wishing to make a records request of the Park Commission should use the Commission’s Official Open Public Records Act Request Form which can be obtained by following this link: Records Request Form.  Alternatively, a request may be submitted by a letter or an email which includes all of the information required on the Park Commission’s Official Open Public Records Act Request Form.

Janine Erickson is the Records Custodian of the Somerset County Park Commission.  Records requests may be emailed to the Records Custodian at opra@scparks.org or they be mailed to the Somerset County Park Commission, Attention: Records Custodian, 355 Milltown Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey 08807 or hand-delivered to that address.  A request cannot be made verbally in person or by telephone.
